Herds of wild elephants reportedly venture out from the Gibbon Wildlife Sanctuary almost every day posing a serious threat to the people living nearby area.
In the latest incident, a large herd entered the Factory Line area of Chaikata Tea Garden in the early hours of Thursday and reportedly damaged the house of a local resident, identified as Karam Tanti.
Residents allege that wild elephants have been creating havoc in the area on a regular basis. However, they claim that the Forest Department has so far failed to take adequate measures to address the situation.
The recurring elephant incursions have left local residents living in fear, with many forced to spend sleepless nights fearing further attacks and damage.
Residents have urged the authorities to take immediate and effective measures to prevent further human-elephant conflict in the area.
