The Central Bureau of Investigation has formally begun a fresh probe into the 2020 death of Disha Salian, the former manager of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput, registering an FIR nearly six years after her death.
The CBI FIR includes offences related to alleged murder, gang rape, criminal conspiracy and destruction or suppression of evidence. The agency has also listed several individuals, including Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray and actors Dino Morea, Sooraj Pancholi and Rhea Chakraborty, among those whose roles require investigation.
Importantly, CBI officials have clarified that the individuals mentioned in the FIR have not been declared accused at this stage. Their roles will be examined during the investigation, in line with the Bombay High Court's directions.
Disha Salian died on June 8, 2020, after falling from a residential building in Mumbai's Malad area. Mumbai Police had registered the case as an Accidental Death Report and had concluded that she died by suicide.
The fresh CBI investigation follows a Bombay High Court order earlier this month, after Disha's father, Satish Salian, raised questions over the earlier investigation and sought a central probe. The court had also pointed to discrepancies in the investigation and directed the CBI to examine the circumstances surrounding her death.
The CBI has now begun examining the available records, statements and other evidence to establish the circumstances surrounding Disha Salian's death.
