A 9-year-old girl allegedly abducted from Mariani was rescued from Islamnagar in Dergaon at around 2 a.m. following a joint effort by Mariani Police force and local journalists.

According to sources, the girl was allegedly abducted on Tuesday afternoon by herv own maternal uncle Sagar Ghosh alias Tarzan and maternal aunt Manisha Ghosh.

The alleged kidnappers reportedly demanded ₹60 lakh as ransom and threatened to harm the girl if the money was not paid by 8 p.m. The family was also allegedly warned against informing the police.

Acting swiftly on the information, Mariani Police, with the assistance of local journalists, traced the girl to Islamnagar in Dergaon and rescued her safely around 2 a.m.

Two alleged kidnappers—Sagar Ghosh alias Tarzan and Wasim Rahman alias Kanakai—have been arrested. Sagar Ghosh was apprehended from Koylakhata in Dergaon, while Wasim Rahman was arrested from Islamnagar.

Meanwhile, Manisha Ghosh, Rahul Ali and another accused identified as Mon are reportedly absconding.

Police have also seized two red scooters allegedly used in the kidnapping, bearing registration numbers AS05B 9917 and AS05W 4263.

Further investigation underway.
